MEDIA RELEASE
17th July 2006
School Zone Flashing Lights Torn Down

As previously advised a trial of school zone flashing lights commenced at four schools in the St George area today. The lights operated from 8.00-9.30 am and from 2.30-3.00 pm. The RTA then arrived and tore down the lights - with five men and four trucks.

It would appear that the RTA does not share parents' concerns about the safety of children around schools. It would also appear that they do not share taxpayers' concerns about the spending of $300 million of taxpayers money on lights when they could be done at no cost to the Government.

The lights will be reinstalled, but on private property where they are not subject to the whims of the RTA.
