School Zone Flashing Lights Rise Again

The school zone flashing lights that were removed by the RTA yesterday afternoon will be reinstalled at Lugarno Public School on Old Forest Rd Lugarno at 8am this morning in time for the start of 40kmh school zones.

The lights that were removed from Peakhurst High School, Peakhurst Public School and James Cook High School will also be progressively reinstalled over the coming days.

The lights will be installed close to but not directly on the RTA signs as before, giving the RTA no grounds for removing them again.

The RTA may have learned nothing from the tragedy of Sophie Delezio, but it has made me determined to see that flashing lights get installed at all schools, not just on a "needs basis" as the government is proposing. If a child gets killed by a car at a school without lights, how do you explain to the child's parents that their school did not "need" warning lights?

The safety of children around schools is too important to be ignored any longer.
