Solar Powered Lights Fail

The RTA's solar powered school zone flashing lights mounted on the 40kmh sign on King Georges Rd at Blakehurst were not operating yesterday 26/6/07. (See photo below courtesy www.schoolzonesanta.com)

After the long period of cloudy weather this month it would be informative to ask the Roads Minister how many sets of the RTA's solar powered lights have failed recently due to insufficient sunlight to recharge the batteries. Maybe that is why the RTA installed 2 sets of flashing lights at some schools such as this one - at a cost of over $100,000 per school - so that when one fails the other one might hopefully still be working.

PS. My flashing lights are mains powered and are all still working perfectly. For the cost of the above installation my lights could have been installed at over 100 schools!
