School Zone Lights Malfunction Again
School speed zones recommenced operation on Monday 16th July and predictably the RTA's flashing lights were again malfunctioning. One of the sets of lights on King Georges Rd Blakehurst, just north of the Princes Hwy intersection, was not operating. Other sets of lights in the nearby area were also malfunctioning on 26th June, 27th June and 29th June. (See photos on www.schoolzonesanta.com).
The School Zone Santa (Hans Stephens) has only been monitoring about 6 - 8 sets of school zone lights out of the 100 that have been installed, yet has discovered and documented problems almost every week since they commenced operation in January. No wonder the RTA has since installed a second set of flashing lights at the same location in many places, at enormous cost. They obviously hope that the two sets will take turns in breaking down.
When will the RTA and government accept that expensive technology is not always more reliable than cheaper technology and stop wasting taxpayers' money?
