Government's Lights Announcement

The Iemma government announced yesterday that it intends to spend $46.5M over the next 4 years installing school zone flashing lights at 400 school zones in NSW. With 11,000 school zones in NSW according to RTA figures that is less than 4% of them. What will protect our children at the other 96% of school zones? Static signs are not enough.

The flashing lights technology that I developed has been on trial by the RTA at 4 schools in the St George area for the past 12 months and has proven more reliable than any other system currently being trialled by the RTA. Using that or similar technology the RTA could install flashing lights at every single school zone in NSW, for less than a quarter of the above price.

I have given my technology to the RTA to use free of charge, but they would apparently rather waste a fortune doing a token installation of less reliable equipment.
